Our Story

By 1999 Bart Armfield had worked on the North Slope for over 10 years and watched the majors not pursue development of smaller accumulations that would have been significant finds anywhere else. He saw this as an incredible opportunity for the right kind of independent and probably the last opportunity for big numbers onshore in the United States.

Bart, along with John J. “Bo” Darrah, combined forces with several small mid-continent independents to form the Alaska Venture Capital Group (AVCG) and they began assemble a strategic acreage position adjacent to the super-giant and giant fields of Prudhoe Bay and Kuparuk. By 2006 they owned over 269,000 acres, brought former Arco Alaska President Ken Thompson into the group, hired a Geosciences team, and formed Brooks Range Petroleum Corporation (BRPC) as a wholly owned subsidiary to work as the operating arm. In the next year, the group formed a Joint Venture with Nabors subsidiary Ramshorn Investments and two companies out of Calgary - Bow Valley Energy and TG World Energy.

Brooks Range Petroleum is a truly Alaskan company – all our employees live here – and is committed to exploring for and producing oil to keep the pipeline flowing and our economy strong. We believe that we are perfectly placed for the era of the independent in Alaska.
