Ken Thompson has been an influential leader in Alaska's oil &
gas industry since 1994. As the President, CEO and Chairman
of ARCO Alaska, Inc. from 1994-98, Ken helped employees
of AAI to reduce drilling and operational costs by over 30%
and exploration costs by 50%. With these dramatic low-cost
reductions, Ken then led business and exploration strategies that
resulted in the discovery of 1.5 billion barrels of oil, reversing the
long-trending oil production decline for ARCO Alaska. His vision
of “No Decline After ‘99” is still remembered by many Alaskans to
this day!
Ken was later Executive Vice President for ARCO's Asia Pacific
Region from 1998-2000, until ARCO’s merger with BP when he
moved back to Alaska to start his own private energy investment
firm, Pacific Star Energy LLC. Pacific Star Energy has a partial
ownership in AVCG LLC, where Ken serves as Managing Director.
In his role at AVCG LLC, he focuses on AVCG’s and BRPC’s
strategy, E&P technology, and business profitability.
Ken, a resident of Anchorage, currently serves on the corporate
Boards of Directors of Alaska Air Group (NYSE:ALK), Coeur
d’Alene Mines Corporation (NYSE:CDE) and Tetra Tech, Inc.
(NASDAQ:TTEK). He is also a Director with non-profits including
Nature Conservancy of Alaska, Grow Forward in Dallas and
Provision Ministry Group in Irvine, California.
